Club and Board news for this month include the following items:
A fascinating talk on the technology and benefits of hyperbaric medicine was delivered to the club recently by Acting Professor Dr Susannah Sherlock (please refer to the image above, which explains the main mechanism underlying hyperbaric medicine);
Our next speaker on Tue 28 Apr 2026 will be John Young on the subject of his and Janelle's Antarctic adventures;
Janette (Nettie) will be hosting an ANZAC rosemary and ribbon tying afternoon at her place this coming Friday;
For the RCSV Pride of Workmanship award, Bob M is looking at a number of potential candidates. Bob is also kindly maintaining our membership photo gallery;
Bob M also spearheds our new-member rectuirment process via coninuous engagement with a number of community groups;
Bob M reported that the RCSV group finished 17 th out of 21 bowling teams who competed at the recent Samford Bowls Competition. Bob did note that we did not come last !!!.

Community Service News
The following Community Service activities have been initiated / delivered this month:
The Rail Trail plaque has now been successfully installed near the trails walking track / rock area.
The Rail Trail Park Bench project is also in progress and includes liaison with the City of Morton Bay, to ensure that the bench ends up in a suitable location. Janelle Y has submitted a community grant application to the Bendigo Bank, in order to obtain financial support for the park bench project;
Repair works on the Samford Playgroup Community Fort have now been completed and the RCSV financial support for this project was recognized via a Village Pump article, that was written by the Samford Playgroup;
A recent report from the GIVIT organization highlights their work for the 2025 Western QLD Flood appeal. GIVIT were able to raise over AUD $ 0.5 million for those impacted by these floods. A GIVIT report on this subject has been circulated. Our contributions to the GIVIT organization certainly helps to support such initiatives;
ANZAC Day Wreaths have been organized for presentation at both the Samford State School and RSL ANZAC ceremonies;
The next Bushcare session has been scheduled for June 2026 (the April 2026 gathering was cancelled due to the Easter holidays).

Recent activities conducted by the local Ferny Grove State High School (FGSHS) Interact Club:
Janelle Y continues to liaise with FGSHS, in order to get the local Interact Club up and running for this year. However, some FGSHS students are going to participate in the World's Greatest Shave.

International News

The post of RCSV International Director is now vacant, following Ian Spiller's resignation from the club. If you have an interest in delivering International Projects for the club, please volunteer for this important position via Carl N;
For Rohingya refugees hailing from Myanmar, who fled to the State of Mizoran, India, access to clean water is a major issue. The Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Institute (HADR) water-filtration project aims to supply clean water to these refugees and support for this work, is top of our International Projects list. Paul J will provide updates on this project when available.
