Is Nuclear Power Necessary? – A Layman’s Approach
PDG Dai Mason Is Nuclear Power Necessary? – A Layman’s Approach Sep 22, 2026

KCSJ, MSc (Eng), Master of Technology Management (E-Business) Dai qualified as a Civil and Structural Engineer working on projects in Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Great Britain. He managed consulting offices for major engineering consultants in Australia and was the General Manager for a design and construct company in Indonesia.

He joined the Rotary Club of Nerang in 1979. He was President of the Rotary Club of Ashgrove The Gap and is a Past District Governor of District 9600. In 2016 he represented the district at the Rotary Council on Legislation in Chicago. He spent 5 years as the campaign manager for the partnership between RAWCS and the Global Fund together with organising a two-day congress on malaria in Melbourne in 2023.

As a young budding engineer, he spent time with the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and was impressed with the development of this source of energy for production of electricity. He will explain, in simple terms, how nuclear power works and the alternative solutions available. A brief review of the world uptake of nuclear generation will be followed by an open discussion on the relevance and acceptance of this energy source.
